About the Role

Our Cloud Platform Team is the backbone of Gumtree UK, providing the essential infrastructure, tools, and services that enable our development teams to build and deploy applications quickly and reliably. Based in UK you’ll work closely with our China based Engineering teams ensuring platform resilience, performance, and scalability. You’ll be a key enabler for growth, taking ownership of our cloud infrastructure, designing and implementing robust systems on GCP using Infrastructure as Code principles. You won't just react to incidents; you'll lead the response, conduct thorough post-mortems, and build preventative measures to improve our resolution times. A significant part of your role will involve looking to the future. You’ll explore and leverage AI and machine learning to proactively detect anomalies and automate recovery processes, pushing the boundaries of operational intelligence. Through your leadership and mentorship, you’ll elevate the skills of the entire team and embed a culture of reliability across everything we do.

What We’re Looking For

• You’ll be an experienced Site Reliability, Cloud, or DevOps engineer, with a proven record of delivering and managing critical infrastructure projects.
• You are fluent in both English and Mandarin, enabling seamless communication across our global teams.
• You possess deep, hands-on expertise with cloud platforms (ideally GCP) and are a strong advocate for Infrastructure as Code principles using tools like Terraform.
• You are proficient in managing containerized environments with Docker and Kubernetes and have experience optimising CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Spinnaker, GitHub Actions).
• You’ll have experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
• You are knowledgeable in database administration and optimization, specifically PostgreSQL.
• You are an exceptional problem-solver with the analytical and debugging skills needed to navigate complex distributed systems and lead effective incident response.
• You bring a proactive, "can-do" attitude, taking ownership of your work while inspiring a culture of continuous improvement and engineering excellence within the team.
